Last month Aunt Sarah and I hiked at Hildebrand Ranch Park. It’s a big, open space near our home with a narrow path and lots of friendly people and pets walking it. It was pretty hilly and there were a number of times that I lost my breath while hiking, but it was fun!
Cactuses
Aunt Sarah said that one of the most surprising things to her when she moved to Colorado was that every once in a while when you’re on a walk you’ll come across a random cactus just sitting there like it’s the most natural thing in the world. You normally think of cactuses being in the desert, but we’ve got them here, too!
Here’s a shot with the city of Denver far off in the background.
Caterpillar
We were walking on the path when I saw a little caterpillar getting blown all around. He was stumbling in the weeds, then bumbling on the walking path, and I thought he was pretty funny. You can see him getting blown around towards the end of the clip. Poor little guy!
Prairie Dogs
Another thing that Colorado has a bunch of is prairie dogs. We’ll sometimes see them in an empty, grassy lot when we’re driving by, poking their little heads out of their holes. On our hike at Hildebrand, we came across so many holes that we thought it must have been a huge underground prairie dog city! Here’s a clip of a little guy warning his friends about us getting too close for his comfort. You can see his tiny tail waggle every time he chirps 🙂

Those cacti look and sound really cool, an that caterpillar was super funny to just watch it go all around. About those prairie dogs it was so funny to watch it chirp and wag its tail at the same time.
