Itty bitty baby birds

Less than a week till we get to see your smiling faces in Colorado! We are sooooooo excited! We’ve been looking forward to this for so long 🙂

This spring we found that a robin had made a nest on our back patio. This robin had several broods, the second of which just flew off last week. Here are some pictures.

In the first picture you can see one egg and two newly-hatched baby robins. They’re so young they don’t even have feathers yet! The remaining egg hatched, and as you can see they all grew into little hungry birds. In the second picture they’re waiting for their mama bird to come back with a worm, chirping all the while.

Early one morning, about a week after that second picture, we noticed that one by one the baby birds were starting to leave their nest. We saw them dive out of the nest toward the ground, and at the last minute they would swoop up and try to find the others. At this point they joined both the mama and daddy robins who would teach them to look for their own food.

We’ll show you the nest when you get here. We’re so excited!! See you soon!
